Messages App Keeps Crashing

My messages app keeps crashing when I try to open it. I have tried all the simple fixes (turning off and on, resetting, and turning off app refresh). I downloaded IOS 10.0.2 and I have a 5c. What can I do to open my messages and know what is causing the problem? (I never received a malicious message either)

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to keep up on your messages and I'd like to help.

Whenever we see issues with the Messages app crashing, it's a good idea to begin by restarting your device, but i the behavior continues I'd recommend signing out of Messages entirely. You can do so by going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap on your Apple ID to select "Sign Out".

Afterwards restart and sign back in. If the behavior persists, or you run into any trouble, the entire community is here to help.

This is happening again with 10.2.1 - the moment I open any message he app crashed - please help me
